How To Look After Yourself If You Have A Large Family
It is difficult for mums who have large families to raise, because their entire day seems to be focused on looking after or at least worrying about the kids, not to mention your spouse. At the end of a day like this, it is easy to just flop on the sofa and start to cry.
With so much stress and activity going on, it’s a wonder that the modern mum doesn’t have a nervous breakdown every night. But we know the solution to this. If you look after yourself by giving yourself some time, rather than giving it all to your family, you will enjoy family life much more.
But how do we do this? Well, the first task is to ensure that you section off part of your week so that it is all about you. This means an evening or a morning where you don’t necessarily have to be thinking about the children all the time.
This may sound easier to organise than it is, but you do need some kind of escape valve in your life. Many women like to go out with friends for example. A nice couple of hours over a glass of wine or two could be just what you need to get away from it all. And it also allows you to talk to an adult rather than a number of children.
Others head to the gym and get some ‘me time’ through exercise. This is a great way to relax as well as stay in shape. Exercise is great for stress release, and it is all natural too. At the same time, you will get to meet new people and realise their is life outside your busy family.
It is also a good idea to get up half an hour earlier than the family do. That 30 minutes may not seem like much, but it can provide you with enough space to actually relax a little, rather than be frenetic and stressed. Use the time to relax and watch a bit of morning TV, or just to sit in the kitchen and have a nice coffee. Having the time is important in itself, and it is almost irrelevant what you do with it. So find the time, and create it in your schedule.
In fact, many mums find that a nice hot bath at the end of the day is a great way to find time to look after yourself and also receive therapeutic benefits. There is nothing better than a nice long soak in bubbles, and this is what many women swear by.
Lock the door, play some nice and gentle calming music, and encourage your other half to do a little bit of parenting while you simply float away on a sea of bubbles. It works for everyone else. Give it a try.
Look after yourself for some time and you will find that raising a large family suddenly becomes a little bit easier.
